121 Camp Day 2 Reflection

1. Q: What new resources did you find and what new strategies will you use to enhance your technology infused lessons for the upcoming year?
A: I found mostly new applications that I can use for the implementation of technology in my classroom.   Sites like Kahoot are great for reviewing material, Today's Meet is fantastic for discussion, Go Soap Box is a great quiz creation website, and Screencast-O-Matic is what I used to create my flipped lesson.

2. Q: Your lesson and Student Sample - what is the lesson that you are using for this course and what web tool will your students use for the upcoming year?
A: Go Soap Box provides the quiz results.  Kahoot also provides an excel file with all the information on who did well on the review and targets what areas potentially need more review.

3. Q: What level of Bloom's Digital Taxonomy and SAMR does this lesson and activity target?
A: Bloom's Digital Taxonomy: Understanding, Remembering, Evaluating
SAMR: Augmentation and Substitution

Classroom Expectations and Procedures

This is the standard classroom expectations and procedures I give my students.

 1. No food, drinks (water is acceptable), or cell phones allowed in class. Netbooks are the only acceptable form of electronics in the classroom. Cell phones WILL BE CONFISCATED (taken away) and turned in to the office.

2. Respect yourself, each other, and your school.

3. Please use appropriate language.

4. Please be prepared to learn and have fun.

5. If you need to leave your desk for any reason, please ask permission.

6. Participation is not only required, but it is part of the class.

If you do your work, show your dedication to the material, and follow the rules, you will succeed!

CLASS PROCEDURES

1. Enter the room and be seated quietly as soon as possible. I will have a question on the board for you to answer for your bell work. You will have 10 minutes to complete your answer to the question of the day at which point I will collect all work passed down to the LEFT of the classroom

2. All assignments MUST be turned in on the day scheduled. If we are doing a performance assignment, I will schedule you on certain days. You MUST be ready for that day. If assignments are not turned in on their due date, you may turn it in a day late, HOWEVER I will deduct 10 points from your assignment.

3. If we do any acting exercises, we will need to set up the room in the interest of space and safety. Once the acting exercises are done, we will put the room back in order quietly and in a mannerly fashion.

4. The bell does not mean you are dismissed. I will dismiss you once everyone is settled and quietly seated at their desks.

IF YOU BREAK ANY RULES OR CHOOSE TO NOT FOLLOW PROCEDURES, IT IS BECAUSE YOU CHOSE TO DO SO. YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE YOUNG ADULTS AND THEREFORE YOU ARE CAPABLE TO MAKE THE RIGHT CHOICES. BE AWARE THERE ARE CONSEQUENCES THAT WILL OCCUR IF YOU CHOOSE TO NOT FOLLOW THE EXPECTATIONS AND PROCEDURES PLACED BEFORE YOU.

1st Offense: Verbal Warning

2nd Offense: Conference with me and I contact the counselors for discipline.

3rd Offense: I call your parents and I write you up with the AP for discipline. You also receive a fail for the day.

4th Offense: You will be sent to the principal for conference, your parents will be notified, and you will receive a fail for the day.

Severe Offense: You will be sent to the principal for conference, your parents will be notified, and you will receive a fail for the day.

THEATRE ETIQUETTE

I grade weekly for theatre etiquette. In other words,. it is possible to get 100 every week of class. If you are caught not practicing proper theatre etiquette, I will deduct 20 points from that total for your score for every day that you are caught not showing proper theatre etiquette. This is an IMPORTANT grade!

It is my greatest desire to see every one of you succeed. Should you need any advice, guidance or extra help, please speak to me and we will set up a conference to see what I can do to help you succeed.

EXTRA CREDIT!

To earn extra credit in my class is simple. You can earn it two ways.

1. Participate in an audition at a local community theater and write about the experience. If you get cast in the play, even better! Getting to perform in a show is an experience unlike any other!

2. Go see a live stage show and write a report about it. You can go see anything as huge as a show at Dallas Fair Park or as small as a show at the Hip Pocket Theater.

I love to run a fun class. Respect the rules of the class, and you will have a fun and productive time. I give a run down of what to expect in my tests before they happen. PREPAREDNESS IS KEY! Thank you and let's have a great school year!

Crushing Barriers

Technology is constantly evolving in a way that we consistently need to keep up with it in an effort to avoid getting left behind.  As a teacher, the use of technology is essential in the classroom nowadays.  The following are some barriers that teachers face daily and my thoughts on how to break these barriers down.

1. "Technology is not better than the old-school approach."
2. "It takes time to adapt to technology!"
3. "The parents think technology is not necessary."
4. "The students are resistant to learning technology."

Okay, let's address these one by one, because I definitely encountered these all in my first year of teaching, (last year BTW) and I think that this will help a teacher be they green, or veteran, in making technology a vital part of the classroom.

1. "Technology is not better than the old-school approach."  It doesn't need to be.  Technology is a tool.  it is not meant to replace.  There are plenty of resources online that can help augment your "old school" approaches and make your lessons more dynamic with the use of technology.

2.  "It takes time to adapt to technology!"  It takes time to adapt to anything. This is a time management thing.  You are the master of your time.  What you do with it is up to you. I try to learn a new form of technology at least once a week.  It is all about figuring out how to stay ahead of the curve as it were.

3. "The parents think that technology is not necessary!"  Yes, parents want the best for their kiddos.  We as teachers do as well.  Communication with them about the technological integration is absolutely key.  Communicate EVERYTHING.  When you think you are done communicating to the parents, continue to communicate to them.

4. "The students are resistant to learning technology!" I will just go ahead and say this.  NO THEY ARE NOT!  The students are better at technology than we the teachers are!  Learning with and from our students is a fantastic way to work with them and crate a richer learning environment for them.
